BILL CAMPBELL - GUITAR BIO
Bill Campbell is a Texas musician (guitarist and bassist) who's been involved in the roots music scene (blues, rhythm and blues, or traditional country) for 37 years.

In the 1960's he moved to Austin and learned to play the blues by hanging out in nightclubs on Austin's east side. Campbell caught on quickly and before long he had performed with Freddie King, Blues Boy Hubbard and W. C. Clark. Not surprisingly, he became an icon of the Texas blues scene and served as an inspiration to other young blues players. One of these was Jimmie Vaughan. "He can play the whole thing". "He's really good at Freddie King and Albert Collins-type stuff, too". "He taught me a lot about chords and playing with the band", Vaughan says.

In 1975 Campbell helped Clifford Antone find a spot for his blues club and for the following six years served as one of the house musicians for what became Austin's most renowned blues club - Antones.

In the late 80's he played in the house band at Slim's (then owned by Boz Skaggs) and went on to run the house band for a year. Campbell spent the 1980's and early 90's in San Francisco. He played with various bands throughout California, including Mick Fleetwood.

After returning to Austin in 1995, Campbell hooked up with Delbert McClinton for a two-year stint of touring throughout the United States. In 2005, he played on Delbert's CD "Cost of Living" released on New West Records.

Currently, Bill Campbell performs with various blues, rhythm and blues, and country groups throughout Texas.

"The missing link between black bluesmen and the player most responsible for the white blues scene, Jimmie Vaughan, is Bill Campbell. No overview of the Austin scene would be complete without his inclusion". Guitar Player Magazine - 1986
